This person, Herb, recently died and there are numerous insurance policies in the desk drawers. I have no idea if the are still active, or at some time may have been cancelled.

I have no idea where to began searching, calling etc.

Any suggestions?

Call the insurance company on each one and give them the name of the person and the policy number. They will be able to tell you if they are active or not.

The first step I would think would be to see who the insurance carrier is and just call them and ask.
