    Irregular Period / Brown-bloddy Discharge
My periods have been irregular since I was a 16... I am 20 now.
I would get a period every three months like clock work, and then I didn't get a period until 6 months later. I went to see my doctor and was given hormones. After taking the hormones to induce bleeding I got a period Oct2007. I have not been back to see my doctor and have not had a period since then. In December I thought I had gotten my period. I began spotting in the morning, by the after none the flow of blood was like a normal period, but by the evening the bleeding was completely gone. Now I often have brown discharge sometimes even bloody. I have also gained a lot of weight. My doc says that could be the reason for the irregular periods, but my weight gain only started 6 months after not having a period?

I have not been sexually active for over a year and I am not on any type of birth control.

Sounds like you'd better get back to the doctor. I woulnd't go to just your regular doctor either, I would see a gynecologist. They specialize in this stuff and should be able to help you.

I think going to the gynecologist is a good idea. Better safe than sorry, esp. if you are irregular anyway. Hope all is OK!

If the doctor gave you hormones so you'd have a period, it helped your to get that period but the effect is gone. I had the same problem, and did all the tests I had to-everything's normal, I'm just not getting my period normally without the pill. I suggest you go to a gynecologist so you can have all the tests wanted, and if you're like me, well the pill is the only solution really...

My gynecologist was the one who actually put me on a hormone treatment to induce bleeding. But, I really didn't like the side effects. I was getting really bad headaches and acne. So I stopped. My periods were really heavy and the bloating and cramping were the worst I've ever felt.

I understand if you might be hesitant to go back to your gyno after that but I still think it would be best since this is what they specialize in. explain to him/her that the last treatment just was not right for you and I'm sure they'll be able to come up with a different treatment plan. There's so many options and new medical advaces everyday I really believe there has to be something out there that can help you. Good luck :)
