How do I get my name off a car title?

Does the car have a lien on it? Do you have the title in your hand?

You need to go to the DMV where you originally registered the vehicle and have a new title drawn up, but you have to have the person with you who will replace your name on the title. Things have to be signed by them and you, so you can't do it on your own. They may require t hat you do a new bill of sale to the person who will be on the title for a dollar, (just to make it all legal). If you are taking you name off the title, you are relinquishing ownership and therefore have to sell it to the person who is now putting their name on it. If you shared it with another person, they have to be there to get it off.
