Several weeks ago I spoke to the courts about Marchman acting my brother. He is dually diagnosed with bipolar and alcoholism. Yesterday his probation officer told him what my plans were, upon hearing this information he went ballistic and made threats to me and our other brother. The question is, should the probation officer given him that information?

What were your plans that made the brother go ballistic? Did you personally tell the PO these plans?

The plan was to have him court ordered to go in to a treatment facility. I did not tell his PO what I was doing. I called the main # and spoke to another PO and asked for advice, she said she would talk to his PO and advise her she was not to mention my inquiry. I also believe there are no coincidences, however he has a mental disorder addition to alcoholism and I feel he is a harm to himself. Without going into detail there were several trips to the ER recently related to alcoholism. You cannot deal rationally with someone that is irrational.

Regardless of what the PO told your brother, the man clearly needs help. Bipolars cannot handle alcohol or illegal drugs. The man MUST get treatment somehow regardless of just how upset he is. You were only trying to help. The PO was only trying to help also. If your brother is on probation and is drinking alcohol the PO can violate him as drinking is a no no while on probation. I'm surprised the PO didn't violate him and have him ordered to treatment. You might want to call them back and ask them to put him in treatment as he WILL now harm someone having threatened you and your family members. Bipolars who drink alcohol are time bombs waiting to explode (more like atom bombs).

Who did you make this plan with? I don't understand how you were able to set up a plan for your brother's treatment.

As far as the PO - I really don't know but it's a good question.

Sounds like he needs help and you are out there trying on his behalf - maybe his going ballistic is just the price you have to pay for caring what happens to him.
