How are Heat Traps installed on hot water heaters?
Most brands come from the factory with built in heat traps. The trap is a one way flapper valve that stops the back flow of hot water to the cold supply. There is a trap on the inlet and another on the outlet.
Another way is to pipe a loop up then down about 6 inches or so. The theory is the heat will rise but not go down.
