Me and my boyfriend just got a scottish terrier puppy. He's 3 month's old and they told us he was crate/paper trained. He goes to his crate when we wants quiet time and at night for bed and has never made a mess in it (except to chew up his bedding) and when we lay paper down (in case of accidents) he did go on it, at first. But every time we take him outside he won't go (we try to take him every hour and a half to two hours), except in the morning. When he wakes me up letting me know it's time he goes first thing. But throughout the day he doesn't make a sound that's he needs to go, and he stopped going on the paper. I'm getting pee spots everywhere! Also the breeder said to feed him only 2cups of food for the day, 1 in the morning, and 1 part way through the day. He poo'ed and before I could get to it he was eating it! Should I be feeding him more? Or was it a puppy thing? I really don't want to get rid of him, my boyfriend really wanted him, but I'm getting tired of scrubbing the carpets all day. Can someone out there help?

That which puppies don't encounter before 12 weeks seems strange to them and they may be slow to accept it. It is an extremely common mistake to leave puppies in a kennel until they are 3 months old. Then people wonder why they are slow to adjust to the rest of the world.

He goes out side and does his thing in the morning, that's the only time. After he eats of drinks I take him out and nothing, and every 10 minutes for the next hour. But he won't go. He waits until we get back inside to do his thing. When were out there I'm trying to keep him moving, but he wants to stop and sniff every leaf and every bush that's moving because of the wind. (there's lots of wind and its really really cold). We're thinking it might be the cold. Just stepping outside and my hands and face are frozen, so my boyfriend got him a little jacket to put on when he goes outside. He doesn't seem to mind it, doesn't chew at it or try and take it off. Anyway, when we come back inside there is no warning. There's no sniffing around or pacing. He's playing with a chew toy and running, then fumbles, sits for a min. then runs away, and vola! A new spot! No warning. I can't take him outside every time he sits down. That'd be about every 5 minutes all day.

I though a night time place to sleep and somewhere he could go to lay down when tired was a good thing? We leave it open during the day time and he can go to it whenever he wants to lay down for a few (then we take him outside, but nothing). At night when he's ready for bed he lets us know by just going in and going to sleep. It's the only place he doesn't accident. Oh, in the morning's when he does go outside he gets lots of 'Good boy, Good Puppy, Potty outside, yes good boy' and a treat and petting and scratches. When he goes inside he gets a firm 'Bad dog. Bad Boy. No no no'. Along those lines.
We're trying to keep him fenced in the kitchen now where its's at lest easier to clean. He's able to stand next to the front door in there if he ever learns. He's taken to the same place, just outside and around the corner of our apartment, there aren't any other dogs near us so it's not main traffic for any others. We thought that would be better for him. We've had him for about a week but if was paper trained then I think we have backwards progress.

You may have to do forced marches with breaks to sniff. Keep a close watch on him inside. You may even have to crate him for a little while after an unsuccessful trip outside and try again as I mention in the sticky.
