Can some one provide me with a link to what programs that are running it my task manager. I seem to have allot running and I would like to end the prosses on some but I heard it can do some damage to your computer if I end the wrong ones. I hope you understand what I am talking about.
We are not psychic and can not tell you the programs running on your computer??
If you want to know what programs are running -- those that start with startup
Go to the area between your CLOCK and the Speaker Icon -- Put your cursor on
Each Icon and it will tell you what each programs is -- and then you can write them down
If you are on Xp click on START -----> RUN -----> type msconfig -----OK This will open
Up ( System Configuration Utility ) Window -- Now cilck on Startup Tab -- all programs that
Run are listed there... programs you don't need running can be unchecked -- if you have any
Question which ones to leave checked -- please list which programs you have checked in startup
I know what I see is is running on the bottom right of my screen. I am talking about hidden programs that are running. When you look in task manager under "Processes" I have allot running. For example I have msn messenger and I am lodged off as well on the bottom right hand of the screen that I mentioned I also exited it. So that means that it is closed down. Right? So why is it still running in my task manager? I would like to know what images names are. Is there a list that can follow this so I know what's what?
It may seem like a lot is running and it could be it is but you should also notice one listed "System Idle Process" which is normally towards the top of the list when it is set to arrange by CPU high to low.
This means you really don't have much going on.
Now you can type in the "image name" of each of these processes and find out what they do though Google but you'll find that most of them should be working all the time in order to have your computer run properly.
If your PC is running a little slow try a Disk Defragment:
Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter
Analyze first and then even if it says you don't need it, run it anyway. This will take anywhere from a few minutes up to 3 hours so I normally run this at night.
Spam and spyware will also slow a computer so do a sweep for those but keep in mind, these programs will slow your computer down quite a bit even though they help keep you safe. I use Nod32 and Spybot which both seem to work great and keep my PC running fast.
If that doesn't fix the slow computer you should look into an upgrade both in storage and RAM. Newegg.com has a good stock of everything and should get you a good price.

I have seen a chart but never bookmarked it. If you look around Google you may be able to find it. It listed the most common Task Manager items and explained what each did or if they were needed.
Most of the time you can end these processes but as soon as you reboot the PC the next day or whenever they will start back up once again by default.
