I have a hard drive from older computer - has ME on it - I installed it in a case, hooked up to rear USB, and power. Computer (XP Home) makes quick recognition, then it is unfindable. Does not show on system analysis. Drive is a Maxtor, in good operating condition. What's wrong?

In order for drives to operate they need drivers installed on the computer

Can you go to ADD/REMOVE Hardware in the Control Panel and try to get

The proper drivers installed -- Should show up in MY Computer when done

Did you connect it Usb to USB? How did you actually connect the 2 computers. Your xp will recognize a device attached to the usb port, but it does not know what it is. The maxtor would have to be booted up and running and then you may be able to network them
