I have a texturized ceiling of my 30-yr-old home, which has never been painted. However, before I proceed to paint, will need to patch repair a small area where texture has been scraped off. Are there patch repair kits for a small repair like this without having to resort to buying a whole container of pre-prepared drywall compound? What would be methology to closely match the texture adjacent to balded area? Would appreciate any suggestions as to how to proceed.

Unfortunately there are many brushes used for ceiling texturing. Yes, you'll need some "mud" (called "topping" or "joint compound"), then browse the drywall aisle for ceiling texture brushes. Pick one that has bristles as tight or as loose as you think will work.

Then from there you just play with it: dab it on then use the brush to try to get the texture as close as you can.

Once you paint it (be sure to use a flat finish paint) it will blend in fairly well if you got the texturing fairly close.

This, of course, is the shortcut to "restomping" the whole thing.

Does ones use just regular joint compound for this?
I have a spot about 18x30 that I had to replace in my bathroom roof. I accidentally stepped through it when in the attic a while back.
I replaced the drywall and now need to get the roof textures to match.
I am going to be repainting the ceiling after I get this part repaired so should not have to worry about paints matching.
