Ad hoc file share on a work issued laptop
    Hello
I want to share files between two laptops running xp pro sp2.
I have set up an ad hoc wireless network which is now allowing me to share an internet connection.
My laptop can be part of a workgroup (it stays at home I am the admin) but my wife's laptop is part of a domain at her work .
When she brings her laptop home she can connect to the web through my connection by our wireless ad hoc network.
Do we have to be in the same workgroup to share files? I don't want to screw up her work lan settings.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    C.

I have the same setup and I'm afraid to tell you it can't be done. Unless they are in the same workgroup they will not see each other for file/folder/drive sharing.

Being a Network Admin (some call us Network Nazi's - Geek Heil), I will provide my own perspective:

Not only do they have to be in the same workgroup, it is likely against company policy for your wife to alter the configuration of a company laptop or to share files from it. Depending on the nature of her business, it may also be illegal. If she is in the medical or legal professions, HIPPA would prevent this. At the very least, if the company is publicly traded, the Sarbanes-Oxley act would enforce guidelines for employee computer use.

I would also assume that there is some sort of guidline outlining the use of removable media such as memory sticks and portable hard drives. Please be sure of the rules before you act. In our environment, file sharing has been disabled and users do not have administrator credentials or privelages. I don't even want to think of the fines that could be levied for the installation and use of unlicensed software.
