Why would my alternator heat up and bern my Maine fuse

Flow is normally from the alternator, through the megafuse, to the battery. Have the alternator and battery tested. There may be a problem with the battery and the voltage regulator. Remove battery, place it on a charger, and see how it charges. Clean battery terminals and cables.
