    1989 civic burning oil
I have a 1989 honda civic and it is burning. When I start it up in the morning it smokes a little bit out of the muffler. Once I get on the freeway I don't notice it smoke. But when I get to work and park the car it smoke a little bit. I have noticed that is smokes only when I am in around 1st through 3rd gear. It is not leaking any oil on the ground. It has been burning about a quart of oil every 400 miles or so. Is it the piston rings? Or maybe the guides? Thanks

Smoke when you start up in the morning, or accelerate from a stop, is likely caused by valve seals that need replacing. Constantly smoking is usually caused by rings that need replacing.

Check each cylinder's compression. If compression improves, when oil is injected in the cylinder, then the rings are bad.
