    Hampton Bay fan
:( I have Hampton Bay ceiling fan for 3 years. Operates by hand held remote only. The remote has gone bad. Changed batteries and no led light from transmitter and fan and light not responding. Went to HD and they graciously gave me another remote from a damaged box. New remote is not working with my 3 year old fan. Are they compatible? Or does each fan need its original remote? Any suggestions?
    Thanks??

    Re: Hampton Bay fan
This is a problem with any Hampton product. Hampton Bay is not a brand but just Home Depot's house label for their fans. The problem is that you really don't know who made you fan. To answer the orignal question, yes not all remotes are compatible. You must find uot who really made your fan and go back to them. Future reference stay name brand i.e. Casablanca. If you have a problem you have somewhere to go for support. Good luck!

I have the same problem noted above, i.e. the remote quit working. How can you find out who actually manufactured the fan? I do not see any reference in easily accessible areas of the fan, though did not remove the cowling to look at the motor itself. I presume the Vendor Number listed in the manual is a Home Depot reference number of some sort?

    Hampton Bay remotes
When you open the remote to check/change the battery, look into the upper part of the remote. There is a tiny blue panel with 4 pegs on it. The first peg should be down and the last three up. You do this by simply raising or lowering the pegs with your finger. Sometimes when you drop the remote it rearranges the pegs. Try this before you pay $40.00 for a replacement. Hope this works for you. It worked for my husband

Bit of a late reply but..
To find out who the manufacturer is of your Hampton Bay (Home Depot) fan you can go to the home depot website, go to the fans section and then compare your fan to another. It will bring up a table of information on both fans - including the manufacturers.

This will only work if home depot is still selling your fan though..
