Rust on New Porcelain over Steel Tub - Causes
I had my tub replaced by a plumbing company and tile installed around the tub. The tub is a standard steel tub with porcelain finish (PROFLO).
On inspection of the work I noticed a spot on the side of the tub about the size of a quarter that someone covered up with something white and small rust spots in the bottom of the tub. Even though I had taken photos of the work in progress I cannot say who/what has caused this damage. The tile person says the plumber did it and the plumber says the tile person caused the damage.
The "ding" I guess I could live with. However, I am concerned about the rust. I have paid the tile person in full and the plumber for all other plumbing work (sewer line repairs to the cost of $4900.00) I have not paid for the tub work yet as I told the plumber a new (never used) tub with rust was not acceptable.
Any one have any ideas what caused the rust or what can get rid of it (without damaging the tub). The rust is rusty red and its like tiny dots (size of sand or pin head) over the bottom. The plumber has used straight CLR but this did not work. HELP!
