Is there any problem with me putting a regular toggle light switch on a circulator pump? I want to be able to shut the pump down at will without going up 3 flights to turn the thermostat down.

Are you asking if you can add a shut off switch at the boiler itself (shut all down by flipping switch), or add a shutoff switch just at 1 zone of the system.. How many zones..

Do you have a gas-fired system or an oil-fired system?

If you have a gas-fired system it would be easy to just add a switch directly in line before the wire enters the boiler or boiler box (If tubular pipe into junction box then should be able to add switch at the junction box and then add new cover plate) and control entire boiler on/off. IF you are looking to control 1 zone (gas) of many zones then you will need to add a switch before the relay switch that controls that zone... NOT between the circulator and the relay... BUT add the switch between the boiler power and the relay. This way you control the relay that tells the boiler what to do>>> If you just installed a switch between relay and circulator boiler would still fire... MAYBE YOU KNEW THAT.. BUT I wanted to mention anyway.

If it is oil you can add switch just like above just be sure not to mess with anything to do with the fireomatic junction box above the boiler.

Ok- my current setup: Oil Fired 3 zone boiler. I planned on placing switch inline inline before the circulator basically killing the juice being sent from the thermostat(?)(its line voltage T-stat) to the pump itself.

Are you sure it is 120 volt thermostat... Hmmm..?

Unfortunately! You have no idea how difficult (and expensive) it was to find programmable 120 v t-stats

OK... I think you will be fine using an in line toggle switch... BUT you better ask some of the guys more experienced than me to be sure (and safe). Start with Speedball1, Iamgrowler, even Ballenegerb1 might know (*smirk*)... can always PM them. If not then refer to electrical section of this site and see what an electrician says... A single throw single pole toggle switch cut into one side of the power supply to the pump ought to do it. Good luck, Tom
