I am a broke, but resourceful guy who got a quote from an HVAC company to install a new fan control board in my Ducan furance for $420. He wrote to part numbers on the estimate. Ducane part 20430801 (Ducane) & ST9160B1076 (Honeywell). He told me it would take him 1-1.5 hrs to install.

To make a long story short, I have found this part brand new on the web for $35, $54, and $75.

I'm sure I couldn't do this in an hour and a half, but how complaex of a task is this? Is there soldering involved or is it a matter of unplugging some stuff from the old board and reconnecting the new one the same way?

Can a resourceful novice pull this off? Are there any online resources that might show/tell me how to do this job?

PS - I can have the part overnighted to me and I have temporary electric heat so the time it takes me to receive the part isn't an issue if I can do this.

Just change out wire for wire. Also make sure you write down where each wire came from on the old board this way you can doubble check your work.
It should not be that difficult to change.

NOTE: if there is a wiring change paper that comes with the new part just follow the directions on the paper provided. From time to time manufactures do make changes and that is why they provide the service man with that information. Order it and get some heat.

Sure you can put in in,, can`t understand why it would take that long,the prob. I see you might have is to make sure you can get the part, and that it's the correct part,, they won`t exchange electrical parts, and some won't sell them to non-contractors,, goodluck

Thanks guys. After reading this and other similar posts I'm confident I can do this job. Should save me hundreds. As long as the professional diagnosed the problem right I should be good. The part number is an exact match and will cost be only 35-50 versus his cost of 420.
