:mad: I moved into a house on well water with a submersive pump. :confused: I noticed there was no cold water pressure anywhere in the house (the water outside has good pressure), Well over the last few months the pressure has gotten less than it was before. A plumber told me I needed to change the sediment cartridge, so I changed the cartridge (which the old one looked as if it had never been changed or what was left of it anyways). The house is 21 years old and it has copper and pvc water pipes, the bored well has plenty of water in it (about 30' of the 45' hole is filled with water.) I have good hot water pressure, but I am tired of washing a 3 hour load of cloths. If someone could help me out please let me know what to do. Thanks in advanced.:D

OK... seems like you may have a few things going on here ward12965... First of all, very confusing description in that there are contradictions in terms of plumbing and how it all works... but we will go through it a step at a time and see from there.

See, to have full or good HOT water pressure is, well, interesting... that is, in order to have good hot water pressure you MUST have good cold water pressure into the water heater... this is an absolute!

So, we have good water pressure into water heater and good water pressure outside (even more curious as I am confident that you are not on a separate meter for outside faucet).Hmmmm.

Well, let me start at the washing machine... shut off shutoffs or single handle lever at washing machine valve and disconnect the hoses from the washing machine.. NOW turn on water pressure through the hoses.. is there pressure.. If there is then your washing machine cold water inlet is probably clogged at the strainer hose washer located inside the cold water hose or stuck to the washing machine nipple the cold water hose attached to. Hopefully this will explain the washing machine issue. Let us know if this worked or not.

Thereafter, I am going to suggest that you clean the aerators located at the end of most sink faucets... am thinking some got clogged here... maybe even the shower head..?

See, when you change an old sediment filter all kinds of things can get clogged up... sometimes the shutoffs used to change filter can malfunction, sometimes a bypass is used temporarily and does not get shunted back through the filter.. all kinds of stuff. LET US KNOW IF THIS DOES NOT DO IT... I am sure with everyone's help on this site we can resolve your issue!

My cold water pressure is very slow also and has gotten slower over the last couple of months. This is what I have discovered and am evaluating... I have well water too and old Rheem hot water tank with a pressure tank and a submerssible pump. Looking at my water tank set up, it looks as if the cold water enters the hot water tank at the bottom and shares the line for the cold water going out to the rest of the house. The set up really seems confusing to me because I don't understand why every thing looks like it goes through the hot water tank. We get stones and sediment from the well only with the cold water and not the hot water because I'm thinking that it settles in the bottom of the hot water tank and the hot water comes out near the top of the tank so it comes out clean and sediment free. So I am wondering if it has something to do with the sediment at the bottom of the hot water tank entering the cold water lines. I am thinking that if you drain the hot water tank and find that the bottom is full of sediment that it needs vacumed out with a shop vac. Or if the hot water tank is old then replace it with a new one. This would make sense that if there is hot water pressure than there has to be cold water pressure too. But if the bottom of the tank is full of crud where the cold water comes out than it makes sense to check it out. Hope I didn't confuse you too much... By the way if you end up getting a new hot water tank, take out the magneseum anode rod and replace it with an aluminum rod. Well water and magneseum don't mix. If your well water has any iron in it at all it will have a reaction with the magneseum rod and turn your water grey and it will smell like rotten egg. I went through this with my other house.

Hmmm... never a bad idea to flush your water heater.. just keep cold water on full pressure when you do so.

All you present is certainly reasonable... but I want to know where the pressure drops off..

Tell me... are there galvanized pipes somewhere.. Almost any transition between copper and metal will result in electrolytic deposition of charged particles.. so look for this, too.
