I need to put a small bathroom in my basement. I have gotten the quik jon type upflow - this ones called STAR but looks just like the quik jon.

There's no piping in the basement floor. The main sewer line is approx., 7 ' above the basement floor.

The real problem I see is how to get the shower base pipe run since there's no underside for the shower drain.. Would I need a raised shower base? thanks..

Is this a concrete floor in your basement? Were did you plan to drain the shower to?

Hi goosebumps... Hey, the PDF file that is attached to the file you left for us is really very clear on how to do the work you are asking about.

Here, you are required to drill a 3" hole into the side of the pump body (template is provided by manufacturer)... and install a 2" rubber gasket (provided by pump manufacturer) using soap or similar where stated in instructions.

I have installed this unit a few times now... GOOD UNIT! Most people have built a 6" floor that covered the pump base and allowed pipes to be run under the rest of the floor (actually tiled over the floor later) for other fixtures.

Thanks MassPlumber - I totally missed that link. Still confusing and I may have to bring an expert in. The Star system comes with a .4 hp pump. Do you think this is sufficient or would you upgrade to the 1/2 hp pump to be safe? Thanks again.

I guess what I'm needing is how to run the shower drain pipe sitting flat on the concrete floor? Is there enough room in a regular shower base to maneuver the piping?

Hey hey... I think the star system is a good copy of the zoehller pump system so I am assuming the .4 h.p. pump will be fine... unless you anticipate heavy use of this bathroom then I would upgrade to larger pump for sure.

Also, I am afraid that this system is not designed for piping to lay flat on a concrete floor. First of all, the pipe must have pitch (and vent ) so the pipes will self scour themselves, and there needs to be a trap under the shower base.

I know it will be tempting to drill the hole in the base of the unit lower but do not do this as the pipe would always be full of sewer water and will most certainly clog over time. Fact is, you need to build a base... *sorry*!

Only other answer is to go to an ejector pump system that goes deep under the concrete floor... good luck with the project and never hesitate to drop in with any questions... LOTS of knowledgeable people at this site that are glad to help.
