    That is the definition of ovulation.

    Ovulation simply means the release of an egg or eggs from one or both of the ovaries.

    Everyone ovulates at different times.

    One rule of thumb is that if you have a regular 28 day cycle, you can assume that you will ovulate 12 - 16 days after the first day of your last period.

    Ovulation does mean an egg(s) is released. SOME cycles are anovulatory, meaning ovulation does not take place for some reason during your cycle. If you don't know the signs of ovulation, an anovulatory cycle would appear like any other.
