Dualing Democrats in the Pulpits - South Carolina
Democrats have always been very high-minded about church politics and stood above commingling church and state issues. The press has given Democrats a bye whenever they appear 'in church', with never a whimper about erasing the line of separation. This year will be different:
"Of course, Obama has made the obligatory appearances in black churches, but he has raised eyebrows by also venturing into conservative white sanctuaries, including the First Baptist Church of Columbia and Redemption World Outreach Center in Greenville.
"Local activists say that some black voters grumbled that it could be a sign that he wasn’t “black enough." But others applauded his decision to stray from the comforts of more familiar, Democratic-friendly African-American churches, saying it sent a signal of unity in faith that echoes his broader message about bridging divisions in the country."
