My dvd tries to load but after 30 seconds displays ERROR. Using a lens cleaning disc the drive will play for about 10 seconds then stop. I have cleaned the lens directly with a soft tissue but this has not resolved the problem.

What does the error say? Have you tried other discs?

The DVD is a stand alone unit not part of my PC. Sadly the message only says ERROR no more info... I have tried a CD + a DVD with MPEG, the unit states it plays them. I have seen the laser moving across the disk looking for data, in fact it tells me there is NO DISK when I load it with out a disk, so I am thinking some of the data id working.

Don't know where to go from here - does it have a warranty? Is it worth getting repaired? Consider the cost of a new one and the cost of repair. Good luck with that:)
