How does electric motor works?

It depends on what type of motor you have. There are gobs of motors available.

There is the Capacitor Start motor, this design calls for the charging of a capacitor usually located on top of the motor. The capacitor feeds the motor is electrical charge to supply torque and direction to the armature.

Then there is Induction, this design applies the electrical source directly to the windings of the motor. The armature reacting to the windings starts to spin. When the armature is up to speed, a clutch like asm. Mounted to the end of the armature latches in place and applies drive and direction to the drive belt.

Beyond these two simple motor types I would need the motor type and specifications.

A motor has wires placed in a magnetic field. When electricity is made to flow through the wires, a force is created causing what the wires are wound on to rotate. That is the simple answer.
