    Vista Error Message
Hi, I'm having trouble installing windows vista. It is a DVD version. When I put it in I get a error code.

    Unknown file format Error Code:89030000

I still have windows me and would love to upgrade. There are so many things I would like to do but windows me does not support it. Is there anything I can do to bypass this error message and install the dvd? I know it is not my dvd player because I put a movie in and it works great. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Is this a store bought vista - has it been used successfully on another machine
Can you read the cd in explorer

This may solve your problem and is a place to start

Your version of windows does not have aspi support for xp nt or vista
Here is an update for ASPI drivers

Today in Win32 the support for ASPI programming is provided by WNASPI32.DLL (not to be confused with WINASPI.DLL), APIX.VXD and ASPIENUM.VXD under Windows 95, 98 and ME, and by WNASPI32.DLL and ASPI32.SYS under Windows NT, 2000, XP

    ASPI drivers version 4.70
Adaptec - Adaptec Driver: ASPI drivers version 4.70 Download Detail

On this page, to the right there is a download button, click that and scroll down page and say yes and press agree

I will try the download on that page. It is not store bought it was given to all the employees at work as a gift. It was not installed on a computer. I have not read it in explorer. I will try to put it in an open up explorer. I put the dvd in nothing happens. When I open up my dvd player and then put the dvd in that's when I get the error message. I will leave now and try the download that you mentioned and see if it works even though I don't understand anything you mentioned.

I tried the download. I unzipped and it says 19 files were unzipped successfully. Then nothing else happens. I close out the box. What do I do next? Thank you!

Go to the folder where the files were unzipped and there should be a setup.exe or an install.exe, run that file and the install should start - once complete if it soes not say restart, restart the comp

When you say your company gave you Vista as a gift was it a verified copy in the plastic box with the Microsoft holograph and an product license key? Or did they just hand you a burned disk.

Did you check to see if your PC can support Vista? A machine that came with Win Me might not have enough hardware.

It is not a burned copy. It does have the Microsoft holograph on it. Where do I find the folder where the files were unzipped?

^^ This is the most likely scenario.

When this happened did you see where the files were extracted to? Or did they extract into the same folder you saved the program to.

This is what I found when I searched for folders.

    ASPICHK,
    ASPIINST,
    ASPI2K.SY_,
    ASPI32,
    ASPI64.SYS,
    ASPICK,
    WNASPIXDLL,
    APIX46.VX,
    ASPIXP.SYS,
    INSTALL,
    README,
    REG_XP,
    RELEASE,
    WINDASPI.DLL,
    WNASPI2K.DL_,
    WNASPI32.DL_,
    WNASPI46.DL_,
    WNASPI64.DLL_

What is my next step? What do I click on? Do I open my dvd player and then click on one of these folders?

    Thank you!

    Go to the folder c:\adaptec\aspi\
And run this file - aspiinst.exe
This should start the install of the files
Make sure restart PC and try to use disk

Seahwk83 thank you for helping me. I did everything you suggested. I guess my computer can't be upgraded to vista. I don't get the error message anymore. The message I get now is A DISC WITH UNSUPPORTED FORMAT IN DRIVE D: Do you know what that mean? Does it mean that it cannot read the DVD?

Now that you have new drivers, let's look at the drive

Start, settings, control panel, system, device manager, Hardware Tab, click on device manager

Click on plus sign next to dvd/cd-rom drives
Highlight your cd rom drive and right click and then click uninstall
Say OK to any boxes that come up
Once that is uninstalled, close all windows and then restart your computer
On bootup your PC will see cd rom drive and install drivers for it
Once back in windows try out your cd again
    Post back

I cannot remove the cd rom drive but I can remove the dvd rom. Is that what I need to remove? I want to make sure before I do it.

I went to control panel, system, device manager, when I click the plus sign on the cd rom,the Samsung dvd-rom sd-612 shows. I right click on the dvd-rom I see remove and click that it says that it has been removed. After that I do restart my computer but nothing happens. I go back and the Samsung dvd-rom is still on there. There is no uninstall. Do I need to remove my power dvd compents in the add/remove program? Will that help?
