    blown sub?
Im new into subwoofers and I have a 15 inch rockford HE2 subwoofer 500 watts rms and 1000 peak 4 ohms, I'm running a sony XM2002GTW amp to it and the amp has the following...

    1200W max power
    200W x 2 RMS into 4 ohms
    500W x 1 RMS into 4 ohms
    High level sensing power on
Variable 50 - 300 Hz low pass filter
    40 Hz EQ boost
    Line level thru-put
MOSFET output stage and power supply
    RCA and speaker level inputs
    CEA-2006 power compliance

Is this too much power for this sub, if it is will the sub eventually go bad??

OK you obviously have a multi channel amp so if you bridge the sub like required usually then you will be getting about 500w which is the rms (recommended range) as long as you don't consistently exceed that then you should be good but on the amp you can choose usually no boost or watever to minimalize the power going to it

Okay, I got the sub from a pawn shop so it is probably just junk

Well have you just hooked it up and seen if it works

Yes but the sub has a very weird sound, the sub sounds like rattling metal or something, a very crappy sound, so I don't know if that means its blown or what

If it works, then it's obviously not blown, but there could be a tear. Did you look at it carefully?

Yeah there is no tear or nothing but it sounds like there is a huge one and when I push on the sub and let go it makes that distorted type noise and I heard when they do that they are done for...

No problem but just in case also before you just toss it I might take it to a stereo shop and get them to look at it just because you never know
