I had a judgment filed against me by CitiBank, date 01/06. I made my last payment on this card on 10/03. They had filed a lien against my home, but that was removed because it is illegal in Texas and the home was foreclosed upon. I hired an attorney to try to get this settled and this has gone on for 5 months. They responded with one offer of $37,000 which was countered with $8500 but they have not responded to numerous letters/faxes and calls since. I can no longer afford to continue using the attorney and the judgement is for $31,000 - that has ballooned to $38,000 - the original debt was for $15,000 - what can I do now? They won't talk to me either. (I live in Texas/statute of limitations is 4 years on bad debts. Thanks!:(

I assume you received a summons for this judgement. If you did not respond to it a default judgement was entered once a judgement is granted the creditor has little incentive to negotate. Did you respond to any of the letters or calls prior to the summons?
Once a judgemnt is entered if they can't garnish your wages then it is a matter of time before they will freeze your bank accounts. You said your house was forclosed on , What did your attorney advise about this debt?

Thanks - the attorney was trying to settle for pennies on the dollar. I was given bad legal advice when this first came up and told to ignore the lien on my home - it's illegal in Texas and they can't get money from my homestead. The home was foreclosed in August and the attorney I have now said he'd try to settle but they may freeze my bank accounts. We have closed an account that they could get to and they can't garnish wages. I am presently transferring payroll checks to my credit card account as soon as it comes in and paying my bills with that credit card. It seems to be working but I am concerned.

IF they can't garnish, and you don't own any personal property of any real value that they could levy for sale at auction then all that really leaves is your bank accounts.

I'd say you are doing what is best for you by keeping the bank accounts clean so they can't get their hands on your money.
