My 5 year old shih' tzu has never walked with me and when I try she just stays in one place and it seens like I would have to pull her along to get her to walk. I want her to go on walks with me because she got bladder stones 2 times already and had to have 2 surgeries and now is only allowed to have a specific food and is now overweight. ANd on top of that we got a new puppy the same breed. But she is now jealous it seems and I've taken my new puppy on walks since 10 weeks old. And now I want them to both go on walks. I just want to get her to go on walks with me without me dragging her along.:(

If she is food driven ask the vet to recommend a treat that you can lure her along with. Hold it in your hand with the leash in it so that she can get the nice aroma of it. When you first walk out the door give her a little tidbit of it. Go about 6ft or so and give her another bite. I think our first walk would only be a 1/2 block or so. Do for a few days in a row and then lengthen the amount of time in between bites along with the distance that you walk. Surely her nose will pick up smells of other dogs and she will be intrested in the other doggy odors along the way.
