Hello,

I have a shower diverter that is very hard to turn. There are 3 knobs one hot, one cold, and one shower diverter. I am not sure what brand. I do not know how to replace it and I am not able to get to the back as it entirely sealed in.

I unscrewed a "nut" thinking it would come up but no luck. I am stumped as I do not see any way to unscrew or pull out the diverter.

Any help on this would help.

Shut the water off and remove the knob and chrome cover. You will see the bonnet packing nut on the stem. Unscrew it and back the diverter stem and washer assembly out counterclockwise. Clean up the threads and grease them with plumbers heat proof grease. Check and change the washers and you're home free. Good luck, Tom

Like Speedball1 said, shut off water, remove handle and chrome cover and plate. Then you will see a bonnet packing nut... this usually has a rubber seal and/or graphite packing under it to keep water from leaking out... usually, the packing nut has to be tightened to stop drips from coming out the handle. THEN, there is a larger stem nut... this needs to be loosened but can be quite difficult depending on depth of the wall the faucet is set into. If it is a shallow wall installation then you can probably just loosen the stem nut using water pump pliers or similar tool... turn both the nut and the stem assembly counterclockwise (put handle on and loosen as you feel stem getting tighter). If it is a deep wall installation I have had to use a deep socket and grab that with my water pliers to loosen the stem nut... can be tricky! Then you can loosen the stem from the stem nut, grease the diverter stem and reinstall to shower valve... reverse steps to reinstall... :)... Hope this helps.
