    Paternity test after 12 years
My husband has been approached after 12 years from a one night stand he had. The woman claims she has a son that is his.

She wants him to take a paternity test, and we don't have an issue doing so. If the child turns out to be his, can she claim back child support for all this time. What if she has lived on state aid? Can they make my husband pay that back?

We are thinking about retaining an attorney before we even take the test, as neither one of us really want anything to do with this woman or her child. It sounds cruel, but after 12 years, we have children of our own.

Yes, they can in most states force him to take a DNA test. If for example she was married at the time she gave birth there are some rules in some states.

But again, it is up to state laws on child support but yes, she could try and collect back child support, will be up to the judge to set a limit and decide often, in some states there will be laws on it.

Same with welfare, often they will, But yes, hire an attorney first, remember she can most likely force the test, but you should have an attorney
