My finals are in 2 days and the first exam is very hard "Chemistry" and the second is worse "Bio" and I can't get myself to study!! Im going crazy Ive tried everything, snacks, breaks, writing, singing, walking, standing, sitting, every possible thing to get myself to study but I simply just cant!! This is so annoying because I always get As and I don't know what's happening now, I only have 2 days and millions of things to study for the first time, HELP! PLEASE HELP! :(

Simple really turn OFF the computer and get some studying done.
I can SUSPEND you from the site on a temporary biases if that will help.

That sounds like an EXCELLENT idea! If I had to study and prepare for something in the immediate future, I would be doing everything that I could to do my best for it. "snacks, breaks, writing, singing, walking, standing, sitting," are all just avoiding doing the studying!

The art of studying is a type of practice. It isn't just practice that makes perfect, but perfect practice that makes perfect!

Someday, when you get out into the world and are looking for a job, potential employers will be looking to see how disciplined you were in taking care of the things that you needed to be studying in order to succeed at school the best that you could.

I guess I didn't make it very clear, I meant during studying, I tried walking while studying, standing, and sitting. I tried writing the information and singing it to myself, I took snacks even though Im not a big fan of eating while studying.. I was wondering if there were any other methods to be able to study. I guess I should just stick my nose into the books and study..?

I know whenever I do something that requires long amounts of time reading or studying I put a little music in the background... matter of fact I am listening to music while taking a break from reading Macbeth right now!!

When I was in college, I used to bring whatever it was that I needed to study to the place where I would practice the piano. That was usually in the recital hall on campus. I found that if I alternated studying back and forth with something that I really enjoyed, that it helped me to study and remember the material better. For me then anyway, I found that I studied better in small increments of time rather than in one long span of time.

I usually step away from the computer for a good 2 or 3 days and devote that time to studying completely. I also put on Beethovean, Bach, Mozart, all of those classical composers on a moderate-low volume while I'm studying. It also helps to alternate the subjects in which you are studying, so your brain won't be dead after 1:30 minutes of Bio. (It would also help if you study where it's quiet and relaxing). Good luck!

Have you been able to pinpoint specific areas that you need to study? It might be helpful to have a game plan and time line... so that it doesn't become overwhelming...

Study with someone. Make flashcards (and the making of them is a form of studying). Chem and Bio are full of facts that can be reduced to flashcards.

Thanks to you all, I managed to get myself studying today for a good amount of time. But I still have lots to study, at least I'm prepared for Chem, not that much however for Bio. I realized that studying in my room at home was distracting me (odd :P ) , I decided to go to a nearby place, all alone peacefully and there I was finally able to study. In case you were wondering, I went to a coffeeshop, the problem is, I have 3 weeks of exams, I don't think I can spend all that time in the coffeeshop! I practically opened it up and closed it down today! :P

What about studying in a quiet corner of the public library?

It's a little late for this semester it seems, but for next semester you may want to try a study group. I could not have gotten through nursing school without one. Each one of us makes an outline of a chapter, then we teach the rest of the group about our particular chapter in words that we can understand versus the terminology in our medical texts.

Also, for future reference, make notes of questions you got wrong on your tests and concentrate on those areas when studying for finals.

I personally can't study in complete silence, my mind starts to wander, and I can't study with music or I start to sing. I put the television on a channel that I don't care for (military channel for example), with the volume very low, just enough for some background noise, or you can try a fan for white noise.

Thank you for you help, I shall try that next semester. :) Tomorrow is my Chem test, I think I'm ready but I'm freaking out over Bio :(
Unfortunately, there aren't any good libraries in my area... as for today, I'm heading to the same coffeeshop, I just hope they don't throw me out! :p
Wish me luck in my exams... I'll post how I did in Chem tomorrow... if there are any last minute suggestions I'll be truly grateful! :)

Try having a study partner. A close friend. Or someone your in a relationship with. It might help. Or reward yourself if you do manage to get some studying done. I usually listen to music while I study. People including me who have a hard time studying is usually cause we simply have no interest no matter how hard we try. Its damn boring and we can't concentrate. But reward yourself or think about the benefits. Or if nothing works. Damn go to the doctor or something

Silent Breeze, next semester make flash cards (using 3x5 index cards) as you go. Condense the information as much as you can. Rubberband the cards based on course name and subject areas. The flash card system should work for any of the sciences, psych, soc, history, English -- heck, for just about any course that deals in facts and trivia.

If you do them as you go, chapter by chapter, lecture by lecture, it will be a lot easier than trying to create them at the end of the semester.

Review the flash cards on a regular basis. Finals will be a snap.

Chem was good thankfully! I did really well, I studied really hard and I guess it paid off. Tomorrow is Bio, next is History. I came back a while ago, I'm heading to the same coffeeshop (I practically live there now! :p ) I really get lots of work done over there.. the problem in Bio is that it has A lot of information, lots I'm reading for the first time today... bad, I know. I hope I make it through these exams and I will surely start a new system next semester and definitely use the cards! :D I'm using them now, not on everything, just in the hard important parts. When I was young and couldn't revise any more I just stopped and did nothing. OK I didn't get brilliant grades but I managed. We live in a world where passing exams are thought of as the only thing that is important. If you cannot revise any more and have really tried there may be nothing else for it- just walk away and do your best. You may surprise yourself. You cannot force yourself to revise.
