There has been water problems under the house, new gutters have been installed a ditch dug to pipe water away from house. Now I am fixing to have insulation replaced under house. Most insulation has fallen down due to the excess water. It is dry now but there is a mold smell in my den. Under this room most of the insulation has fallen down, and what's left has mildew spores on it. Also the floor joyce has mildew. The floor is not rotted, just a few areas show water stain. Will it help with the odor if I have the area sprayed to rid the mildew before my insulation is installed. The odor has come through my floor and carpet. I need to get rid of this odor, please help.

To successfully get rid of the mildew odor you MUST completely get rid of everything that has the mildew on it or you're just going to be fooling yourself. The spores are everywhere in the carpet (that's got to go) and any furniture in the den (that's got to go too). The longer you keep anything with the mildew in your home the MORE mildew you are going to have. Get rid of the old insulation ASAP as well. Any that got wet has to go.

You think are looking at a quick fix when it fact it's not a quick fix in the long run. The fact you can smell it should tell you that it's gotten out of hand. Trust me, the smell will never go away if you don't kill all of it now before you install anything else in your home.

Have a professional come out and give you an estimate of just what it's going to cost to completely get rid of the mildew. This is a mold and can adversely affect your health as the little spores will get into your lungs and make you and your family ill and you will be at your wit's end to figure this out and spend many happy weeks or months ill before someone can tie it back to the mildew damage you had but somehow you think you got rid of. Some homes have been declared total disasters due to mold and mildew (which are the same thing by the way) and the families had to move away as their health got so bad.
