Amana 80 SSE Heating - works for 5 seconds then turns off
I have an Amana 80 SSE heater. I read through the site and found out that I had no blinking series of lights - everything seems fine. I took an air can and cleaned out the flame sensor and it worked fine for a few days but now it is back to the same old problem - turns on and lights up for 5 seconds and then turns off. Do I need a new flame sensor? Thanks, Andrew

Try cleaning the flame sensor with "00" or "double ought" steel wool (available at auto shops that deal in body work). Cleaning with canned air is pointless, as it will not remove the oxides on the metal. Be careful not to break the ceramic.

If it's the flame sensor-this should do it, but seeing as flame sensors are relatively cheap, I would replace it. The industry standard is to clean it to provide heat, then return to change it.

I cleaned the sensor with sand paper and my Amana AMV9 seems to be working fine. It was cycling on and off with NO blinking codes resulting. I plan to also purchase a new sensor to replace this one. Thanks for the advice!!
