Strep thrat meds and yeast infections.
So, here's the deal. 12 days ago I caught strep throat from a girl at work. I got medication from the hospital here in town on New Years Eve. I started them that night. The bottle says '30 CAP APO AMOXI 500MG'. Out of the thirty pills I only took 14. During this time, a sore opened up on the inside of my lip. It grew until I stopped taking the meds. I stopped taking them because of an intense itching I had on my vagina. I know these antibacterial meds can cause a yeast infection. I got 'Vagisil' to make the itch stop. I was using that for three days and all my symptoms went away. Now last night, I discovered a small red bump on the outer part of my vagina. It's only itchy when it is irritated, other then that, it doesn't hurt, I have normal discharge. Everything else seems fine.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Or do I have something to worry about?

You only took 14 pills? You have to worry about the strep coming back, or worse, Rheumatic fever. When prescribed an antibiotic you must know that you have to take ALL of it. Every last bit of it. Don't stop when the symptoms are gone... don't stop if other symptoms develop without the advice of your doctor.

Amox is a med that commonly causes yeast infections. You can call your doctor to get a prescription for diflucan to get rid of the yeast infection.

Now, back to the doctor for you, for another strep culture to see if the strep is gone or is lying dormant.

Not trying to scare you... But to add to j9 advice. I personally know someone that had strep that went to the veins in one of her legs because strep went untreated. Another person I met a children's hospital theirs settled in their kidneys... had kidney transplant. I'm not saying these things happen each time but it is a possibility.

Also try eating yogurt.. a spoonful or so each time you take a dose of your meds. This was taught to me by my children's doctor. It has worked for us as long as I remember to use it.
