Change?? Change from what??
Hello:
I'll tell you what - the Bush FAILED PRESIDENCY - that's what!
When we were attacked, we ALL lined up behind the Bush Doctrine. Everybody, including me, wanted him to go after the bad guys.
Frankly, I saw bad guys all over the Middle East. Certainly, I noticed Afghanistan and the Taliban followed closely by the Saudi's, the Iranians, Hammas, Fattah, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the Syrians, the Pakistanis, and lastly Saddam Hussein. Yes, I'm sure I've forgotten a few.
Bush however (who compares himself to Truman), thought some of those people were his friends – not his enemies - and proceeded accordingly. I don't know where he got that from.
In his last year in office, Bush's central challenge is to clarify what he himself has allowed to become muddled about the nature of the current “War on Terror”.
Unfortunately, his refusal/inability to assert his own foreign policy against the wishes of a hostile bureaucracy, calls to mind not Truman, but another president who led his country at the cusp of another crisis. Like Bush, James Buchanan - the last president to serve before the Civil War - understood the nature of the gathering storm; yet rather than confront the dangers, he was overwhelmed by them.
The Bush Presidency is an absolute failure, and we are in MORE danger because of it - not less. No?
