I woiuld say first it is very unusual for a 55 year old to first be developing epilepsy. And next it is very hard to determine. I would believe that a second opinion from a non related medcial group may be a wise choice.

Parkinson Disease has the symptom of shaking. Did the doctor base his diagnosis of epilepsy on just the shaking? There are tests that should be done before a diagnosis like that. I would get a second opinion and some in depth blood work, and possibly an MRI.
