Renting a house with my pit bull
I am trying to rent a house in Tennessee(Memphis) and there seems to be a big deal about my pit bull, does anyone know the law on the homeowners insurance concerning a bully breed?

Laws vary by state but pits and several other breeds of dogs are on a blacklist for homeowners insurance.Since you are renting this house the landlord could be held responsible for anything that happens with this dog if he knows you have it and did'nt report to his ins.co.I don't thing it's fair to petowners to punish everyone for what other pets have done. Some companies will cancel your insurance or raise your rates so high you can't afford it.. so check this out before you move... sorry I can't help more, I know my company won't insure you if you have a pitt and several other breeds.. heres a link on some info Re: choose btwn homeowner's insurance or your dog - CHAKO'S Dog Forum..

Pit Bull owners pay dearly for others ignorance when it comes to insurance and renting. There was a thread on this recently that I transferred to the insurance forum. The search feature works well here. You can go advanced and find all the posts about Pit Bulls in the insurance forum. You might look through https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/o...ls-149286.html There are some discussions of insurance and renting. That thread contains some of the ugliness of the rest of the world toward Pit Bulls.

You can also check out this site from the TN Insurance Commission:

    You could also contact the:

Very few insurance companies are going to cover Pit Bulls, and very few landlords are going to allow a pit bull on their property.

You will have to show the landlord that you will have a renters policy that will cover the liablity of your animal. Also they may stll not want you with the animal, in case their own liablity insurance does not cover it either.

You issue is not only insurnce you can buy, but the insurance that the landlord has on their property, you may have to be willing to pay a lot extra so they can add this animal to their own insurance policy
