    Natural family planning
    Hi everyone,
I need to know if anybody has tried NFP before and had success... I am considering going off my Yaz birth control pill... have been on a few different kinds and can't seem to get past the side effects... mainly NO sex drive anymore and mood swings (which yaz was supposed to help?)
The mood swings have gotten slighlty better, but ever since I had my baby 9 months ago nothing is the same. I am coming out of PPD, and this pill was part of my treatment plan... but the more I read the more I am convinced the pill can CAUSE problems. How is it good for your body to pump it with synthetic hormones year after year?
I want to try going off the pill, but am not ready for another baby right now.
I hear a lot of jokes aboutNFP not working, and how people who use that method have 6 kids...
    Anyone have any advice?

NFP should only be used if having another child is not out of the question. We don't recommend this for women who do not want children for a few years as it is an unstable method of birth control.

Have you considered the diaphragm or the IUD?

NFP can work, but it does require a certain amount of diligence, self-restraint and paying attention to your body. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't already have a pretty regular cycle, otherwise it would be pretty impractical.

Begin by reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, learn about your body and start to chart. You will figure out in 6 months or so how your body works and if it is going to work for you. You will find in the book statistics on the effectiveness of NFP for birth control.
