    Need pressure switch for Amana
The pressure switch on my 3.5 ton Amana heat pump needs replacing. My local professional checked on part availability after leaving yesterday, and called me back indicating the cost for the switch alone would be approx. $975.00. Hoping to do better than THAT! At any rate, the many many pressure switches I have found online, though none are what I need, are all far less than that figure.

I pulled the panel this morning and got the following info from the switch:

    Manufacturer is Alco
    Part no 20212408
    GT6046-1
    R0115

Also indicates on the switch that it 'has internal check valve - replace with identical part.'

Heat pump is Amana model no PHD42C02E1, MFG #P1239709C.

I have searched several parts supply web sites, thus far to no avail. Hpoing to get some help here.

Also, I am told that refrigerant removed to facilitate switch replacement cannot be reintroduced, and that the cost for new freon will be $38/lb. Reasonable?

I must tell you that this forum is GREAT! Very happy to have found it.

    Best regards to all

I think the price is high but it is not a do it yourself job. Call and get other estimates.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I am not considering doing it myself. Just looking for a better price on the part for my professional to install. He, too, was shocked by the price quoted him, indicating he had never seen one priced that high. He also is going to try and find a better price.

Need to find one at a lower cost, if available, within the next few days and get on with it.

    Thanks again.

Thanks again to hvac1000 for the response, and to askmehelpdesk in general for this excellent forum.

Also let me apologize for asking about a pressure switch, when actually what was needed was an expansion valve. HVAC is by no means my long suit!

At any rate, my service professional has located the part and ordered it. We we are all set.

    Thanks again.

I believe I would consider changing brands of heatpumps and spending the xtra bucks it would cost to replace the heatpump

After being told on Friday that the part would be $975, I was told today that was the whole job price. Big difference! I thought it still a bit high. Now down to around $650.00 for the job. I can live with that.

If I had been asked to pay $975 for the part before refrigerant, labor, etc. I agree it would have made sense to consider swapping out the unit. In fact, I have been pricing new units as my Plan B.

    Thanks,
    SG
