Oil furnace will not start on cold days
Our old oil furnace will not start on cold days. We like to keep the temp in the house at a very cool 45F at night, but, in the morning, the furnace will not restart and we need to press the reset on it several times to get it to stay going. Almost all of the sensors and the thermostat on the furnace have been replaced within the last year. Any ideas what may be causing us to have this problem?

    Thanks
    Jim

Your problem may be that the oil line may be clogged with years of oil deposits running through it and the viscosity of the oil when it is cold, not providing enough oil to the furnace for proper operation. Good luck, Mike

    Thanks Mike
The outside temps had dropped into the single digits and we are running just fuel oil. The furnace would burn for a few seconds before kicking off. However, as the day warmed up, the furnace started working. Since the tank and supply line are exposed, I am guessing that it was the fuel oil gelling. I'm going to add kerosene to thin things out.
    Thanks again.
