Anything is possible. Could it be a faulty button, always look at the possible reasons first. If nothing else can be explained then maybe it is possible something out of the ordinary happened?
  there is no way that it could have turned on like that you half to turn it on by pushing the botton. When I went to turn it off the botton was pused in.
I watch a show that is about talking to dead people and it says that at 3 am is when they do it cause it is called dead time or something like that and it happened at 3 or 10 affter.
I AM VERY FREAKED OUT!!
Hi jesushelper76, I am the one who experinced this, its my sister in law is who asked the question for me, the fan is the type that you have to push a button to get it to work, there's 3 buttons, one for slow, med and fast speed... it turned it on fast speed which I never do because I have a baby in my room and it makes it to cold, There was no one near it when it did it. I had noticed that you had comented on someone else's post about a ghost/sprit question, you had asked them if it could be a family member that had passed away,my dad passed away 2 years ago in a motorcycle accident at the age of 42 do you think that is what it could be? It also happened a little after 3, and I don't know how true it is but I watch a show called Paranormal state and they say that 3 am is called dead time, that's when it is the easiest for them to contact you and vice versa. I have never experienced anything like this before so I'm a little freaked out!
I would suggest looking first for any possible logical and "real world" explanation as to why this has happened. For instance, maybe a button was accidentally pushed in even a little bit and then, because of further motion of some kind in the room, it moved to the "on" position on it's own because of other movement or vibration that was happening? Just a thought...
I have used similar fans for a long time. They have got springs behind every switch. Whenever one switch is pressed down all the others jump up (that's why we need springs). It is possible that when turning OFF the fan from your previous use, you did not pus hard enough on the OFF button. So the fan was turned OFF, but the spring mechanism was put into a transient state rather than being restored in its usual OFF state. And it eventually reverted back to a suitable state, i.e. one of the buttons pushed down. It might sound confusing, I wish I could open up the casing and show you the spring mechanism as a better way of explanation.
And one more thing. Please don't get any idea from TV shows.
I want to think that there is a logical reason for that to have happened but really there's not. The fan was off, and had not been on for 2-3 days. The buttons aren't that easy to push in either, you really have to push it in to get it to go, and I had forgot to put this in the previous post but the night before I was talking to my husband about the show that we were watching (it was about people who have passed on contacting there loved ones) and I was saying how if that was really possible why hasn't my dad tried to contact me ( by doing something unmistakeable) then it was the following night that the fan turning on happened, also later that night when I was finally able to try to go to sleep ( I was feaked out!) I was almost asleep and I had felt a hard shove,it almost nocked me off the couch. It might be nothing but I'm just trying to make sense of it all.
