"Which way did it go George?"
Odd thing happen today... my 'D' drive went M.I.A. and I not sure how to get it back. I checked the wire to yjr HD and it is still plugged in. So I am guessing that this is either an error somewhere , or its dead.

Any ideas how to get it back?

    Hi,
When you say your drive went "MIA", does that mean you cannot boot into Safe Mode? Does your computer start up at all?
I also use Win98/98SE, and can help you, but must first know if your computer will boot up. MIA could also mean your hard drive is working, but doesn't show up under My Computer.
    Will your computer boot up?
    Thank you.

What is your D drive? Is it a CD, DVD, hard drive? Did you go into your CMOS setup to see if its listed?

Yes my d drive is missing from my computer and my computer does boot up. The d drive does work and this has happened before just shows up when it wamts to. I have win98 on my C drive just other programs that are on d drive don't work. Boots up in safe mode as well but still don't show up.

D drive is a CD drive and cmos shows it being there as well.

    D Drive doesn't show up
    Hi,
This might work, having the computer repair the registry.

Registry Repair should be done whenever there are problems:

    To Repair the Registery:
Turn off the computer; or reboot; then immediately press F8, (or, could be F5) located on top of the keyboard. Keep it pressed down (or release and press, release and press) until an options window comes up, then release it.
(If F8 or F5 doesn't work, then re-boot, and immediately press down the CTRL key, hold down until it comes up to the options screen).
Use the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard to select "Command Prompt Only".
    Press Enter
    You will now see C:\>
Type in SCANDISK , all small letters, and it will look like:
C:\>SCANDISK , then press Enter. Takes about 5 min. maybe.
    When finished:
Type in SCANREG /FIX (there is a space between the G and the / ).
You will now see C:\>SCANREG /FIX
    Press Enter
This will take about 5 minutes or so.
When finished, press Enter for OK.
Manually, turn off the computer, wait a few seconds, the turn it back on.

The above runs Scandisk and Scanreg /fix, which will repair the Registry, and hopefully fill fix the problem.
If you haven't run Defrag in over a month or so, I would then go into Safe Mode, then go to Start/Programs/Accessibility/System Tools, and click on Disk Defragmenter.
    Best of luck.

I'm confused, you are saying the CD drive works, but just doesn't show up or does it work at all?

If its not working at all, you might try checking it our in Device Manager.
