I am about 5 days late for my period. I had sex about 4 or 5 weeks ago right after I was done my period. Should I take a pregnancy test now? On occasion I have slightttt cramping and gas pains are frequent, my belly is also puffed out. This may just me period symptoms I'm not sure.. if anyone has any advice. Let me know. Thankssss

Hi, a pregnancy test would be good at this point. Enough time has passed that if you are, the human growth hormone would show up on a test.

If you are late, I would take a pregnancy test just to be sure.

Usually a woman isn't fertile right after her period. It would be hard to tell if you are pregnant because it has only been a month since your last period. I thought I was pregnant one time because my period was late 5 days as well but that was due to some sort of stress going on. It's funny to because my period came on a regular basis since I was 14. Sometimes when women think they are pregnant when they are not and that's all they think about, they will get symptoms. It crazy. It's like some psychology thing. I would wait another week to take a pregnancy test. 4 or 5 days doesn't say anything.

There are many things that can cause a late period such as weight loss or gain, stress, or hormonal imbalances, as well as just a cruel joke played by mother nature herself.

As for the hormone, it is not the human growth hormone (that is what makes us grow tall), but hCG, which is the Human chorionic gonadotropin, which is only produced by the embryo when we do become pregnant.

4 or 5 days is not really considered late in the medical community and, again, can be caused by many things. I suggest you wait a few more days, then take a HPT using first morning urine. If it is negative, wait another week before testing again. If that one is negative, it would be wise to make an appointment with your doctor to find out what may be causing this.

I have been eating differently and maybe I lost a few pounds since school... maybe that's y I am a bit late. We shall see.. ill wait like a week or so before worrying again.
