I'm 18 and I want to move out, can my mom do anything to stop me?
 So basically I am 18 but I still don't know if I am [U]allowed [U]to move out? My mom scares me so I don't just want to spring it all on her or she will go ballistic on me, so what should I do? I want to move in with my best friend...

Assuming you are in the US, and assuming you not limited on mental ability and have a guardian assigned over you.

So at 18 you are a adult and you are free to move out at any time you want. Now you can't just take anything that you did not buy, so often that means walking out the door with your suitcase. NOt your bedroom suit, if your parents bought it, not your TV, if your parents bought it.

Why doesn't your mom want you to move out?

Does your friend live with his/her family? Is your friend a male or female?

Make sure you think through this. You could end up in a worse situation and may not be able to return home if things don't work out. "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence."

Well you are 18 right.. && you want to move out no there is nothing your parents can do to you.. When you hit 18 you are considered to be an adult.. So don't be scared she will understand at least I hope so..

As far as the approach. I didn't just throw it at my parents I was scared to hurt their feelings. Try to tell her a positive thing that will come of it and make it good for her too. Maybe she wants you to get out on your own. You never know.

Have you finished school yet? Is she providing anything for you that you might lose if you move out? Consider what benefits might be lost if you go...

I feel the same way I want to move out and I have a job and everything lined up already but she keeps telling me no... not realizing she's pushing me away I'm going to write her a letter asking
Maybe you should try as well
