Sonic booms generate enormous amounts of sound energy, sounding much like an explosion; typically the shock front may approach 167 megawatts per square meter, and may exceed 200 decibels. Thunder is a type of natural sonic boom, created by the rapid heating and expansion of air in a thunderstorm.
I hope this helped you out.

This person has nothing better to do then criticise other people. For people to ask a question and they need an answer you give it to them. You don’t have give them a link for them to read the whole thing to get one small part that they need.

    Hello Kandi:

As long as the airplane is supersonic, the sonic boom travels as far as the airplane does. It's created by the wing and where ever the wing goes, so does the sonic boom.

Of course, you could have meant how far away can you hear it. Somebody thought you meant that. I don't know.
