Am I ready for the pain of delivering a baby?
My Husband And I Have Been Married For Six Months. We Were Together For Five Years Before We Got Married. He Is 28 And I Am 25. He Is Ready To Have Children, But I Am Unsure. I Want To Have Kids, But Then I Don't. My Biggest Fear Is The Delivery. I Am Terrified Of It. I Waited To Have Sex Until I Was Married, So That Was A Huge Fear For Me. Now That We Are Past That And I Didn't Die, The Pregnancy Thing Is The New Fear. My Question Is: How Do Know You Are Ready? How Can I Convince Myself That I Will Be Okay? Please Help Me I Want A Baby Some Days, And Others I Am Too Concerned With The Pain.

    Thanks.

You are really making more of the pain than what it really is. Honestly, the pain, better described as pressure, is only there for a few hours, when that beautiful baby is born, that pain/pressure is replaced with pride and love.

Also, there are pain meds out there that take away the pain of labor and delivery almost completely.

Can you describe what you think the pain is like and maybe I can help allay your fears?

I had a beautiful baby boy back in June and I was terrified of the whole delivery process. Especially after watching women give birth in movies and hearing my mom tell me about it. But its not really that bad, like J9 said its more of a pressure. I'm not going to lie, there is pain but the epideral is great! I wasn't sure if I wanted one but once I got mine it was nice. I was able to enjoy the birth of my child and not scream in pain and wish it was over. Once they placed him in my arms, I forgot all about the pain and looked into those eyes of the little one and just melted. It was worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

As a labor and delivery nurse, I can tell you that many of my patients come into the hospital scared to death, and leave after having a quite pleasant experience.

There are many meds that can help with the labor and delivery, the epidural is by far the most popular. As a nurse, it is my job to make your labor and delivery as pain free and enjoyable as possible. You just have to let your doctors and nurses know of your fears, that's what we are there for.

And for those there are wonderful meds and epiddural that makes it a lot easier. My wife has to be the biggest baby ever, esp about pain, was a breeze for her.

I also think if you are mentally ready and have things in order it makes life easier. You sound like a planner so it should go smooth for you.

I cannot tell you what the pain of labor is like because I had a c-section. However, I can tell you that before I got pregnant a posted a question similar to yours... How do I know I am ready? What I was told was you are never ready... and that was so true, I do not think there ever would have been a point where I said... I am ready today to be a mom. We just decided that it is what we wanted, and now we have a beautiful 4 month old boy. Good luck to you!

Please don't be scared about labour, labour is the best part of pregnancy. Once you have your baby in your arms you forget about all the pain. I want to have another child but it's the pregnancy that I don't like, the labour wasn't as bad as people tell you,I mean yeah its painfull but there are so many drugs these days to dull the pain for you. So don't worry so much hun:)
