I am demolishing a 35yr old stahl shower on our second floor. I have gutted the entire 10x10 space and cannot remove the shower basin. How is it connected to the drain? How to I remove it? I can feel the basin is loose but will not budge. The basin appears to be made of steel and fiberglass. :confused: Thanks

What are the drainage pipes made of? What part of the shower base is made of steel? Unless you wish to save the shower base why not take a Saws-All and saw that sucker right out of there? Let me know about the drain pipe. Regards, Tom

I think the drain pipe is made of copper, can't tell. Definitely not PVC. I though about a sledge hammer, but I did not want to run the risk of disturbing the drain pipe. I don't need the basin, so I thought about using a Saws-All, no problem. Where do I saw from the outer rim or do I drill a series of holes around the steel collar near the drain and then connect the dots with the saw? Once I lift the basin out, how do I disconnect from the drain pipe?

It doesn't matter how you saw it out just saw around the drain and leave it intact while you saw the base into pieces and pull it out. If the raiser'd copper then chances are the drain's brass and soldered in. You may take a torch and unsolder it or, if you have room for a set of cutters, you can cut the drain out. Good luck, Tom
