An ultrasound may identify the gender of the child ( a level 2 may be necessary as that typically provides a more detailed view of things, though your doctor probably won't order one unless it's medically necessary since it's more costly.) Also a genetic analysis can determine the baby's gender. Likewise, you can't have that ordered without a compelling medical reason since it is costly and risky. Your doctor will do an ultrasound when you are about 20 weeks, at that time you can ask/him her the gender of your baby.
