Gurgling in sink above basement sewer pump
I have a sewer pump in basement in which half bath and washer empty into. When sewer pump ejects there is a gurgling sound coming from kitchen sink directly above on first floor. Any idea what causes this?

The pipe is likely to be connected to the system around in that area and you are simply hearing it pour into the system from the pump.

The sink is close to where the pump ejects into sewer line, but I have had the pump in basement for 2 years and I just started having this "gurgling" two months ago. I have to add that a couple weeks ago sewer backed up into upstairs bath (toilet and tub) after basement pump ejected. Plummer determined there was a block in line between house and street and snaked it clear. (since water that was ejected could not go out to street it backed up to upstairs bath) But since then I still have the "gurgling" in the same sink, almost sounds like water is coming up. No activity in toilet or tub like last time but it makes me nervous since first the "gurgling" started then it backed up. Called plummer - he said doesn't think it is blockage but maybe it is venting through sink, maybe vent to it is clogged? What do you think? Are the two related or two different issues? Thanks.

If you have the same signs as a previous back up, go with it. Sometimes a snake clears a drain, sometimes it only pokes a hole in it. Did he say if it was roots?

He said he found roots and some cotton products. I don't have any trees in my front yard - maybe old roots? The strange thing is that I never had any problems/symptoms of a clog before two weeks ago when it happened after the pump discharged. The toilet flushed fine and all drains were quick to empty - no slow running drains or backups. Guess it's time to call him back.

Have him clear the drain and have him video the drain, you want a copy of the video. If you can, have him mark the spot in the yard that is a broken or cracked pipe.
