    Ejector pump additional ques.
I read the post from Wesryan (basement ejector pump). It answered most of what I needed to know, though I still have some questions. I have a split level house built in 1966. The crawl space was dug out and the laundry tub was placed down there. The contractor installed the ejector pump in the pit, with the ejector side connected to the drain pipe and the laundry tub drain going into the pit. I replaced all the DWV with PVC and was going to vent the drain, but then realized the vent would be downstream of the trap. #1-does this need to be vented? If so, with a dedicated vent? The only drain is the tub and this has been set up since 1979 with no smell or drainage problems. # 2-I fully understand the concept of venting the sewage ejector, and it makes sense; however does the length of the vent pipe from the pit to the DWV connection make an operational difference? The ejector for the bathroom, installed at the original crawl space level, was vented into the drain vent. I replaced the DWV the same way. This is the way it was set up in 1966 and again never experienced any problems. Maybe codes have changed since then. #3-what is a studor vent? Thanks

    Hi Shader

    1) Yes, that drain needs to be vented.

    2) Vent length is very specific and can be an issue, but I would need to know exact lengths to say more.

    3) A studor vent is a mechanical vent... also called an AAV (air admittance valve). AAVs are illegal in most states, but accepted in other states. They can be installed in the bathroom or at a fixture as long as the AAV remains "readily accessible" for future swap out should the AAV fail and allow sewer gasses to enter the home.

More questions just let us know, OK?

PS: I know this is an old question but we are trying to close out some of the old unanswered questions... ;)
