I bought a Harbor Breeze fan that came with a remote. I also bought the wall control kit WC100L (Wall Control Kit)

My understanding is that the wall control is a remote that transmits to the fan (the kit includes a receiver that gets installed in the fan that gets coded similar to the remote - the receiver is the same as comes with the remote).

As such, I don't think the fan should need to be wired to the wall control. I believe that the wiring on the wall control gets hooked in to the wires where the old wall switch used to be solely to power the transmitter.

We followed the wiring instructions but we seem to trip the circuit breaker every time we try to use the wall control. The fan and light work fine with the remote.

Are my assumptions correct? Any suggestions on how to wire the wall control in? Do I actually need to wire from the fan to the wall control (seems to defeat the purpose of the transmitter)?

The wall control should be wired exactly the same way the wall switch was wired that it replaced. Wire it to a neutral and you will fry it, and trip the breaker.

Ok - so just to be clear when I get with my handyman tomorrow:

1) The wall control is a remote - does not need to be wired into the fan (this seems to be the case)

2) The wall switch that is being replaced was previously connected to an outlet (the bottom of the two plugs would turn hot when the switch was turned on). The wall control should be wired the same as the old wall switch?

3) If the unit was wired incorrectly (to a neutral) and was fried, do I need to replace it, or does that just mean the breaker was tripped?

4) The wall control has two black wires and a green one. My wall has a black wire, a white one, a I believe a ground. I believe we wired as follows:

WALL UNIT WALL
Black White
Black Black
Green Ground

Is this incorrect?

Ok. The fan you are installing, was it previously controlled by an on-off wall switch?

1. It does need to be wired into the fan.

2. The wall control should be wired the same as the old wall switch

3. If it was wired across a hot line you'll want to exchange it.

4. Could be correct, could be incorrect. Depends on what the white wire is.
