You can hide it, say put it in a garage until you have your money; of course, you can be sued in the meantime. You can file either Chapter 7 or 13, but it isn't so easy to 'unfile'. You should speak with a competent bankruptcy attorney, who just may be able to hold this creditor off while you get your money together. Start calling friends and family, or your employer, ASAP.
They are supposed to give you 30 days to get it back off them but then you have to also pay the next payment and fees as well. I don't know if bankruptcy would go through fast enough and it costs probably two or three times more than what your payment would be anyway. Plus with the new bankruptcy laws I don't know what you would be allowed to keep and not keep.
Bankruptcy is not a cure-all, but the filing operates as a 'stay' of whatever proceedings a creditor may be involved in. Also, you can keep what you pay for, even within a bankruptcy case, provided there aren't additional issues such as 'equity' in the property.
Chapter 7 filing fee is $299 plus attorney fees according to what I just read. Folks file for bankruptcy for many reasons, repossession of a car or home, or to stop a garnishment, being leading causes. The filing fee can be paid in installments under certain conditions. Every case is different. Chapter 13 filing fee is $274.00.
